The Saturday 7

Guess what, guys . . . today is the last day of February! We did it!  1. February actually seemed to go really quickly this year, because I had a big event to plan for school. This was the event that held me back from taking the Development job for as long as I did . . . because it involved me getting up in front of 100 people to give a speech about our spring fundraiser. But it was more than just a speech, and I spent many  hours preparing this week. One of the main things I've been working on for a couple of weeks is creating raffle baskets as prizes. The idea is that for each $100 a family raises, they get a ticket to put in the raffle basket of their choice. So I tried to create some variety, and I'm pretty proud of the end results! Thank you, Pinterest! I made this myself, and it was actually pretty easy! 2. Thursday afternoon was the school-wide pep rally. Every year we play a life sized matching game which requires me to squat down and place the cards, then squat up and...

One more week of February, people! We're almost through!  1. I can't really complain about February after this week. We had a rare edition of "false spring" that gave me the boost I need to make it through a few more weeks of winter. Temps in the 50s and 60s! I went days without wearing my coat! Levi and Lena spent hours riding their bikes and playing driveway basketball. It was glorious!  2. But I'm getting ahead of myself. A quick recap of the week I skipped . . . Lena had three away games, but I missed two of them because I had Development-related meetings. Levi had his Valentine's Day party on Tuesday. He got all creative with his box this year. The kid has a lot of big dreams, but gets frustrated with the execution of them. He very often expects me to figure it out for him, but I have zero engineering/mechanical ability, so he had to lower his expectations. Lol. It still ended up pretty cool. He drew the wolf on cardboard, I cut it out and helped him glue...

We did it! We made it through the first week of February! Only three more to go! 1. I've been thinking a lot about success lately. Especially a Christian view of success. Working at a school has opened my eyes to the priorities some parents have about their children's education - namely that a high quality education is sacrosanct. And I can't help but wonder why. Why does your child need the absolute best of the best, top-notch education? To get into the best college? Why? To get the best job? Why? To make a lot of money and be happy? Maybe I'm just a country bumpkin, but that seems so futile to me. Don't get me wrong. I believe in quality education. I think we should be good stewards of the brains and abilities God has given us. But I think, just like anything else, we can idolize our pursuit of education as a means to success. Really, I think we tend to idolize success in general. Is that what God has called us to? Wealth, privilege, and comfort? I've been mor...
