The Saturday 7

1. Last Saturday, Justin and the guys went on their 1st annual man weekend, so I had all the girls over. We stayed up til 4 am talking!! Pulling all nighters like that was a lot easier before we had kids. Lucy was up by 7:30. Yikes. I was tiiiired on Sunday.

2. Justin and I have both been fighting a nasty cold all week, but amazingly, Lucy hasn't gotten it. *knock on wood* I don't understand how germs work. I got this cold from Kelly - who I never shared a drink with or kissed or anything. I share utensils and straws with Lucy all the time and am constantly kissing on her, yet she didn't get it. Hurray for her immune system, I guess!

3. I actually thought Lucy was getting sick on Saturday because she started coughing. I've decided that she just has a really weak gag reflex, because sure enough, that little cough caused her to puke pizza alllll over her bed in the middle of the night. That girl and her puking. So strange. But she really hasn't been coughing much since then. And no more puking, thank goodness!

4. We spent a couple days at the pool this week during our heat wave. It was unbelievably hot. And it really only got to like 97*. I don't know how the people in the south can survive those 100+ degree temps! The good news is, my tan is looking pretty fabulous. :-) Vanity might literally be the death of me.

5. I'm going to try not to let my pregnancy take over these Saturday Sevens, but I just have to say that I am already so huge. I'm starting to get concerned about fitting into my bridesmaid dress for Libby's wedding in August. I only got one size bigger than I normally wear. We might have to do some creative alterations. I went back to look at pictures of my pregnancy with Lucy. I wasn't this big 'til like 17 or 18 weeks. And do you remember how huge I got with her? Ohhhhh man. I am going to be a whale.

6. I checked out a couple baby name books from the library this week. I don't like anything. We are going to have some serious trouble naming this child. I have looked at the social security administration's list of the top 1,000 baby names, and been on every baby name website I can imagine. Nothing is standing out to me. Or anything that does is already taken by a family member or doesn't go with our ridiculously long last name. Niki and I were talking about baby names at the pool this week in front of the kids she babysits for. One of them suggested the name Cody. If you know our last name, you know how funny that would be. Considering it. ;-)

7. I can't think of a 7th, so I'm just going to record one of my favorite Lucy-isms of late. She calls her hands "handas." "Wash handas please!" or "Hold handa." Haha. It cracks me up.

Have a great week, everyone! Stay cool!

10 Weeks

Our cutest picture to date. :-)

How far along? 10 weeks
Total weight loss/gain: I haven't weighed myself this week.
Maternity clothes? Still trying to hold out a while longer.
Sleep: Wonderful. I could sleep all day every day.
Best moment this week: Sharing the news!
Movement: Nope
Food cravings: Restaurant food and Dr Pepper - not sure that's really pregnancy related. Haha.
Food aversions: Nothing really.
Gender: Unknown, but I'm convinced it's a girl.
Labor Signs: None
Belly Button in or out? Out :-(
What I miss: Being able to take good cold medicine.
What I am looking forward to: Hearing the baby's hb at my appt next week.
Milestones: 10 weeks is 1/4 of the way there!

Nothing too exciting happened this week - well except for sharing the news finally! Woohoo! I've enjoyed letting my belly hang out instead of trying to hide it. I'm sure I'm causing a lot of "is she pregnant or just fat?" discussions between people at the grocery store. Haha.

The Saturday 7

1. The news is out! I'm pregnant! I've only been keeping it a secret for 5 weeks, but it has about killed me! Haha. Now that I have a history of miscarriages, my doctor got me in for a couple early ultrasounds. I had my first one at 7 weeks. The baby just looked like a jelly bean, but I could definitely see a beating heart. It was amazing! I physically lost my other babies at 9 and 10 weeks, but they both measured 6 weeks. So seeing a live baby at 7 weeks was already a huge relief for me. Then on Wednesday I went in for my 9 week ultrasound. This time it actually started to look like a baby!

I could see its arms and legs moving a little bit and its heartbeat was 180 bpm!

I haven't been feeling the greatest. I'm not puking my guts out or anything, but I've been pretty miserable and exhausted. (Another reason I gave up on potty training Lucy so quickly - I just didn't have the energy to keep up with it!) I am unreasonably huge:

If I hadn't seen 2 ultrasounds for myself, I'd be sure there's more than one in there!

So today I'm 9 weeks, 3 days, which makes me due January 23, 2013 - which is the day this year that I went to the ER for my D&C. Ironic, eh?

You can read all the xanga entries I've been writing here. But be forewarned that they are not totally appropriate for all readers. Haha. Nothing graphic, just kind of TMI. :-)

2. Ok, in other news! The car situation is still pretty dismal - although I did have a vehicle to drive all week thanks to my mom. She has a friend who is in Alaska for the summer. My mom borrowed her car so I could use her van. Thanks, Mom!! But we're still at a standstill with buying one. I'm so torn between borrowing money from family members or trying to somehow use my 0% interest credit card or just waiting to see if God miraculously provides something. Blurg. I don't know. Oh and now Justin's brakes are grinding and need to be replaced. Lovely.

3. We spent lots of time at the pool this week thanks to the sweltering temps. Lucy still loves it . . . as do I! Although I'm sure everyone I came into contact with while I was wearing my swimsuit gave me the side-eye. Haha. There's no hiding that belly in a swimsuit!

4. Ok, so this is going to be a pregnancy-heavy Saturday 7, but I've been keeping it to myself for so long I have to get it all out now! Haha. Every time I go to the doctor they ask me which number pregnancy this is for me. It's so strange to answer "4." I've been pregnant 4 times?! Crazy. No wonder my stomach is already huge.

5. I came down with a nasty cold this week. I am such a baby when I'm sick. The common cold should not wipe me out this way. And I'm pretty sure Lucy's getting it. Her nose started running today and I can hear her getting a little bit hoarse. :-( Who gets colds in the summer?!

6. Just realized I never wrote about going to the lake last weekend. It was absolutely wonderful. The cottage we stayed at was amazing, the lake was so warm, Lucy loved the water, we went on a pontoon boat ride, swam, read, tanned, and mostly just relaxed. Perfect.

7. Justin and the guys from our small group left this morning at 5 am to go hiking and camping in the wilderness. Tonight, the wives are all coming over to my house to eat junk food, watch chick flicks and stay up until all hours of the night talking. Who do you think got the better end of that deal? Lol. I really should go clean my house, but I just put Lucy down for a nap and really think I'm going to join her. Friends don't care about messy houses, right? :-)

Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes. We'll take as many prayers as we can get for a healthy pregnancy and baby. I'm sure you're all so excited for my weekly updates and pictures! ;-)

The Saturday 7

1. What a week. I'm posting a day early because we're going on vacation this weekend! After all my whining a couple weeks ago about not having a lake house, we're going to a cottage on a lake! Haha. Justin's parents have some friends who have a cottage. Dave and Donna are staying there this weekend and invited us to come up too! So excited. It is going to be a much needed vacation after this awful week.

2. Monday morning, we got up at 5:10 to carpool with Justin to work. We got in the car, turned the key, and . . . nothing. Click, click, click. Mind you, this is our one working vehicle. We don't have another car in the garage to jump his with. We both sat there in disbelief, wondering what on earth we were going to do. Somehow, by the grace of God, Justin got it started. We got to his work and he turned the car off to make sure I'd be able to get it started again later. No such luck. It was dead as a doornail. Fortunately, Justin works with my brother-in-law, who let me borrow his Jeep for the day. Mike got our car to the shop and haggled a deal for us. It ended up being something electrical with the battery (you can tell I know a lot about cars, right?) and they fixed it for free! Praise the Lord!

3. Tuesday we successfully carpooled and that night Justin got to bring a work van home, so I could have the car on Wednesday. I actually had the day off, but wanted to run some errands. I was heading into Sparta, going 60 mph down 13 Mile when the car started beeping and telling me to "check gages." I didn't think the gages were doing anything, but I pulled into a gas station anyway. As I parked the car, I noticed smoke billowing out from under the hood! My first thought was, "Should I get Lucy out of the backseat? Is this thing about to go up in flames?" Haha. (Funny story - my nephew Tyler's car started on fire the day before! Everyone was ok, and it was just a minor fire that didn't really do any damage, but you better believe I had fire on the mind after that!) Anyway, I attempted to pop the hood but couldn't find the latch to get it open, so some old guy at the gas station helped me. He pointed out that I was completely out of coolant. Lovely. I bought some coolant and poured it in, then drove to the shop to see why my coolant would be totally gone. Turns out it was just a leak in a pipe. I begged them to fix it that day since we were already down one car, and Niki picked us up (for the second time in 2 weeks - haha). We got the car back that night after paying a nice little $118. Sigh.

4. In less depressing news, we got Lucy a letter puzzle for her birthday that is a little bit too advanced for her. But in the past week or so, she's really started to get the hang of it! I'm amazed how she remembers which letter goes with which picture. She knows K goes with key, M goes with moon (and is also for Mommy), D goes with duck (and is for Daddy), L is for "me!" Haha. She doesn't say her own name. She knows F is for fish and H is for house and A is for apple. I'm so proud!

5. We went to my parents' pool a few times this week and Lucy absolutely loved it! She was terrified of it last year, so I didn't know what to expect this year. But she plopped right down on the steps with her toys and had a blast. The water was icy cold, but I eventually got in and she loved swimming around with me. I'm so happy she likes it! We're going to spend all summer there! Especially since I got my schedule for the summer and I'm only working 2 days a week. :-/ Gotta get my tan on for the big wedding in August!!

6. So here's a controversial one for you: I'm a little surprised by how many of my friends are reading 50 Shades of Grey. There was a whole discussion on facebook the other day, and I couldn't believe how many people had read it or wanted to read it! Mostly I'm just surprised people are so vocal about it. Even if I did want to read it, I think I'd be more secretive about it! Haha. Here's an article I read about Christians reading the book. What do you think?

7.One more car-related post. I just have to say, after all the drama these past couple weeks, I don't know what people do without family. We are so blessed to have a plethora of family members just a phone call away. This week I borrowed Niki's van, Mike's Jeep, and Libby's car. Another couple family members have offered money. My mom just arranged a different ride for herself so I can borrow her van next week. And the best part is, no one ever makes us feel like a burden. Everyone is so willing to help. We are so so grateful, and hope that someday we'll be in the position to return the favor. I was telling Justin that I feel like God is trying to teach us something, and we're not getting it, so he keeps allowing these circumstances that drive us to Him. It really is kind of comforting to know that we are so out of control the only thing we can do is trust and wait upon Him. Although it's kind of terrifying too. Haha.

Thanks for all the encouragement and love, everyone. Hopefully next week will be better! :-)

The Saturday 7

Busy week! I feel like I have lots to write about!

1. Lucy randomly got sick this week. Monday morning when I got her out of bed to go to work, I thought she felt really warm, but I figured it was just because it was hot in her room. On the way to work, she puked all over herself. Lovely. I took her temperature when we got to Chase and Lyla's house: 101*. Poor girl. My boss couldn't miss work, so I had to stay. And Justin couldn't take the day off to come get Lucy because he used all his sick days for my D&C in January. So we stuck it out at work. She actually did pretty well as long as the Tylenol lasted. Every 4 hours, she started to melt down. She puked one more time at home that night, but was totally fine by Tuesday morning.

2. So the news of the week is that my van died. It's been stalling and acting weird for a while, but on Tuesday it totally died. I was actually at work. I had just dropped Chase off at school and was driving home with Lucy and Lyla, going 55 down 10 Mile Rd., when the speedometer started dropping . . . dropping . . . dropping. Eventually my power steering went out and everything died. It took all my strength just to get the dumb van to the side of the road. I sat there laughing because I was either going to laugh or cry! Haha. Niki came to my rescue and picked us up, and I had the van towed away. We got the call on Thursday that it's beyond repair. :-( Something about the engine being fried, no oil pressure, and the transmission going out. They offered to rebuild the engine for $4500, but the van definitely is not even worth that much (plus it has 200,000 miles on it!), so I guess we're in the market for a new vehicle. The problem is, we have $8 in our savings account and we're up to our eyeballs in debt. Sigh. God will provide, right?

3. Lucy suddenly started calling me "Sadie" this week. I really don't think she's doing it to be naughty or funny. She just thinks that's another name to call me. She hears Chase and Lyla say it a thousand times a day, so just assumes she can say it too. It's actually kind of cute because she says it clear as day. She can't say Niki or Libby or Grandma or Grandpa clearly, but she can sure say "Sadie!"

4. I've pretty much given up on potty training. She's still interested. We still watch Elmo's Potty movie a million times a week, and she'll occasionally ask to wear undies or go potty, but for the most part she's in diapers. Maybe I'll try again in another month or so . . .

5. I hosted a Premier Jewelry party for a friend on Thursday. It was fun hanging out with the girls, eating snacks, and wearing some cute jewelry. And Kristy got me a bunch of pre-sales, so I got $108 in free jewelry! I was never a big jewelry wear-er . . . maybe I will be now!!

6. Speaking of free things, another friend of mine is a sweeper of sorts (you know, like enters every sweepstakes imaginable) and won a bunch of free photo canvasses. She ended up not wanting them all, so passed the code along to me! I got mine this week:
I still need to decide if I'm going to get it framed and find a place for it on the wall, but isn't it adorable? Thanks so much, Amy!!!

7. We closed on our re-finance yesterday. Woohoo! We locked in at an interest rate of 3.625% which is almost 2 points lower than our previous interest rate. It will lower our house payment just over $100 a month. The actual house payment (without the escrow) is now less than what we pay a month in student loans. How depressing is that? And because we're closing just before our summer taxes are due, we rolled in the cost of the new taxes into the loan to cushion our new escrow, and we'll get a check from what we had already built up in our old escrow in the next month or so. Woohoo!

Whew! Congrats for hanging on to the end. We'd appreciate prayer for our stupid van/financial situation. Thanks for all the encouraging words on facebook and in person. We're so grateful to have such a great support system. Love you all. Have a great week!

The Saturday 7

1. Every time we drive by Big Boy, Lucy shouts "boy!" She's been there like twice in her life, but apparently it made an impression on her!

2. We went to the podiatrist this week as recommended by Lucy's pediatrician. Her left foot points in when she walks and the doctor thought we should get it checked out just to make sure it isn't anything serious. Her appointment was at 9:30, but they told me to get there 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork. We got there at 9:20 whereupon I signed 3 pieces of paper and waited in the waiting room for 20 minutes. We didn't see the doctor 'til 10, and didn't leave the building until 10:40! Craziness. Lucy did really well letting the doctor poke and prod her hips, knees, and feet. But she was not a fan of the x-rays. She looked so miserable just standing there crying. :-( Anyway, the verdict is this: her foot points in out of habit, not because anything is wrong with her bones. The doctor wasn't too concerned and said there's not much we can do at this point short of encourage her to point her foot outward when she's sitting or sleeping. He also wrote us a "prescription" for Stride Rite shoes - which will run us between $60 and $80. I think we'll just wait to see if she outgrows it on her own.

3. Yesterday was June 1, and I think we hit a high of about 56 degrees. This morning when I got up, it was 65* in our house. We keep it at 66* during the winter! It's taking everything in me not to turn on the heat. It's just wrong to turn the heat on in June!!

4. Justin and I finished season 4 of "Big Bang Theory" this week. What should we watch next? I'm thinking "Psych."

5. Ok, so here's the potty training update: it is not going well. I don't even want to write this because you're all going to tell me she's not ready, but I want to record it for myself more than anything. The first few days she did really well. One day she only had 2 accidents, and actually told me she had to go twice. But since then it's gone steadily downhill. She only has 10 pairs of underwear, and one day we actually ran out - that's how many accidents she had. I'm getting discouraged and not being as consistent as I should. I need to make up my mind whether to stick it out or just quit and try again later. The biggest thing, though, is we can not afford to keep buying diapers. We're so strapped right now that it would be such a help to stop paying for diapers every month!! Ugh. We'll see . . .

6. In an effort to encourage interest, we bought her Elmo's Potty Time movie with some birthday money. She loves it and watches it probably twice a day (yeah, go ahead and judge me for letting my 2 year old watch 2 movies a day). It is one of the most annoying movies of all time. And I get the stupid songs stuck in my head. "Girls do it, boys do it, even famous queens and kings do it. Soon you'll use the potty tooooo!" Lol.

7. Last night, Niki and I went down to the mall and ordered our bridesmaid dresses for Libby's wedding. Woohoo! They're cute dresses, and they have pockets! Awesome! They're going to come in super handy for all the kleenexes I'm going to go through. :-) While we were down by the mall, we stopped at Krispy Kreme for National Donut Day and got a free donut! Bliss!
