The Saturday 7

1. What a terrible week. Last Thursday, Lucy came down with a random fever. She was whiny and lethargic, but didn't have any other symptoms. The fever lasted 3 days, but she woke up fine on Sunday. So of course Levi came down with it by Sunday afternoon. His fever has been on and off all week, combined with a nasty cold. We all have coughs, and 2/3 of my kids puke when they cough, so I've been cleaning up puke all week. Plus, Levi has had diarrhea all week. One day it actually went up his back like the old infant days! My cold came on slowly, starting Monday, but getting worse every day until I wanted to die. I don't think I've ever had a cold this bad. And I've had a fever off and on too. I spent pretty much all week laying on the couch or in bed. I think I managed to do 4 loads of laundry and I made one meal, but for the most part my family has been on their own and my kids have been watching a lot of TV. Thank goodness for Justin and my mom who have kept the house in working order. I can actually breathe out of both nostrils today, and as long as I keep up on the ibuprofen, I don't feel like I'm dying, so that's progress!

2. I'm struggling with taking my girls out of their school. I don't know why it's such a big deal. It really shouldn't be. I'm just sad that they're going to miss out on so much. And I'm really devastated that Lena won't have her teacher again next year. Lucy only had her one year. I don't know why it's so hard on me that Lena will have the same thing. I just have to keep reminding myself of the positives to homeschooling. Like not having to leave the house by 7:45 am every morning. It was rough this week with everyone being sick and miserable and this never-ending winter we seem to be stuck in. I despise waking Lena and Levi up and dragging them out in the cold to bring Lucy to school. One day, Lucy was actually 5 minutes late because I just didn't care enough to rush everyone out the door. Haha.

3. I cut Lena's hair last week. Her hair is so much less forgiving than Lucy's because it is stick straight. I am definitely not quitting my day job . . .

She's still cute though:

4. It's that time of year again, where I pretend to care about sports for a couple of weeks!
I make my family and friends fill out a bracket with me every year and then I actually watch the games to see how my teams are doing! There have been some nail-biters this year! I always pick Villanova to go all the way, and they're my only hope this year. The other 3 that I predicted to go to the final four are already out. Haha. #bracketbusters

5. I've been in a reading rut lately. All my Christian fiction seems to be the same ole same ole, so I branch out to secular and then feel guilty because it's so trashy. I finally read a non-fiction book last week. It's one that I've had in my "to-read" pile for going on 2 years but never actually get around to reading. I shouldn't have waited so long, because it was a super easy read - and really good too!

It was really convicting to realize how often I give in to my kids' demands and how much I spoil them and set them up to expect rewards for every little thing.

6. I've been majorly purging our house lately. When I went through the toys last week, I found a little handheld electronic Yahtzee game. Lucy got the hang of it right away and has been obsessed with it. Then she discovered that we own real Yahtzee, so we've been playing that too. (Or at least trying to. Levi is a dice thief.) I consider it a learning game because she does her own math to add up her scores. And I just got a Yahtzee app on my phone to play while I've been laying around trying not to die of the common cold. We're obsessed.

This was in the listing of a house that went on the market this week. The house is listed for $120,000 so it's not a total dump.
