The Saturday 7

1. I've been on a dystopian kick lately. I read the sequel to the book I wrote about last week. And I started the series Jamie recommended (Life as We Knew It). I suddenly feel the need to stockpile canned goods and bottled water. I was worried that we don't have a water source very close to our house, until I went for a walk today and remembered there's a creek right across the street! Although, truth be told, we'd probably leave our house in town. I'd either go live with my brother on the lake, or Krindi and her cows, chickens, and woodstove. She's in the woods so we'd have lots of firewood, but I'm not sure about a water source. Better do some more research. 😂

2. Thinking about a future without Internet or electricity made me wonder about the longevity of my blog. I've been writing this thing for 10 years! I'd be so sad to lose it all. Thinking about that had me going back to the beginning to re-read it from the start, and it reminded me why I love having the record of my life. I'd forgotten how seriously poor we used to be. Haha. I wrote about how $200 of groceries lasted us a month. I also wrote about many of the times I didn't think we'd be able to pay our bills, but God provided - through side jobs and propane overpayment and escrow overpayment. At one point, I wrote that we had $28 in our account. Another time, when my van died we had $8 in our savings account! And yet, we never went into foreclosure, never had our electricity turned off, never struggled to find something to eat. It's a great reminder of how God continually provided for us.

3. It's also been a little hard to read my old entries, though, and remember how much Lucy used to love me. We were best friends, and we adored each other. This summer has been hard again. Things were going better during the school year, but we've regressed again. I miss my little girl. And I'm terrified that in a few years I'm going to be mourning my relationships with Lena and Levi. 😭😭

4. We didn't go to the pool at all this week! It has rained almost non-stop all week. I wonder if the pool misses us and much as we miss it . . . We did manage to have one fun outing yesterday:

Levi's first spare

I showed those kids how it's done the first game.

I didn't want them to feel bad, though, so I let them win the second game. 🤦 This is with the bumpers. Lol. At least I didn't use the dinosaur slide!

5. Well Justin's watching 30 Rock and I can't concentrate, so here are some pictures:

Learning how to arm wrestle

Jumping in puddles off the picnic table. (This was earlier in the week. That picnic table is like 6 inches underwater now.)

Pancake night. Levi took a sudden interest in making his own pancakes.

"It's Mickey Mouse!"

Bowling wasn't my only failure this week. Lol. He completely pwned me in checkers. I did not let him win!

Levi wanted me to draw a house this week. I've been watching a lot of HGTV, so apparently I'm a pro now!

  1. I've read three of the four books in the Life As We Knew It series. They are good but, oof: devastatingly sad. I can't wait to hear what you think of them!
