Lucy's "Frozen" Birthday Party!

Image
A few months ago, I saw a carnival themed birthday party on Pinterest and decided this would be a good year for Lucy to have her first friend party. I thought she'd love a carnival theme and it'd be easy and fun. And then along came Frozen . There was no question that the carnival was going to be replaced by Anna, Elsa, and Olaf. Thanks to its insane popularity, there were a plethora of ideas on Pinterest . I chose a few of the easiest and went to town. :-) Decorations My amateur pictures don't do justice to the tons of paper snowflakes Lucy and I cut out and hung from the ceiling: I chose a purple, blue and white theme to complement our Frozen  tableware. I originally found the plates/cups/napkins at Party City , but then discovered the same thing at Dollar N' More in Sparta! If you're looking for Frozen tableware in my area, go to Dollar N' More and shop local! ;-) I got this  Frozen  poster at Wal-Mart for $5. I'm sure it will find p...

The Saturday 7

Insane day. I've got 57 minutes to get this up and still legitimately call it The Saturday 7. Time to get crack-a-lackin'. 1. We had a heat wave this week. I missed our old house and its central AC a little bit. Haha. But I sure did enjoy having a pool in our backyard! 2. Lucy and I worked on the letter P this week. I did a few activities intentionally focused on P, but as you'll see, much of our week involved the letter P! On Monday, we hosted a P ool P arty. It wasn't much of a party. I just invited some of Lucy's friends over to swim. No games or activities or anything. Just the pool and some snacks. Our other planned "P" activities included  p ainting a p icture of P inkalicious and reading  If You Give a P ig a P ancake. We never actually got around to making pancakes like I wanted to. It was just too hot. 3. On Thursday, we went to Kelly's house for a p laydate with P resley. (Although that was really just a guise to spend the day in ...

1. We're making progress on the summer bucket list. Last Saturday we went to a Whitecaps' game. Lucy loved it - mostly because we went with a group and got tons of free food and little trinkets: bubbles and glow sticks and cookies galore! My mom and sisters were there, so I don't think I watched a single minute of the game, but we had a blast. As we were leaving, Lucy said, "We should do that again someday!" Haha. On the morning of Independence Day, Justin took Lucy fishing. This is how it went: Lol - she fell in the water and was not a happy camper.  2 events crossed off the bucket list! 2. I pinned an article on Pinterest this week from a couple who have gone on a weekly date night every week of their 8 year marriage. The article was a bunch of creative date ideas. The people obviously have money, but I liked a lot of their ideas. Anyway, she linked to some other blogs and got me looking at all these lists of date ideas (obviously written by women). So ...

1. Well I survived my week off of facebook and Pinterest. I didn't particularly enjoy it. I missed it a lot. Apparently I'm just not one of those people who enjoys "unplugging from the world." And I don't know how much it helped my depression/comparison issues. I just find other ways to compare myself. In church on Sunday, there was a girl on the praise team who is my age, has had 2 kids, and is a size zero, always wears such cute clothes, and can style her hair so amazingly! I had to close my eyes during all the worship songs because otherwise I just stare at her the whole time feeling ugly and inadequate. The issue isn't facebook. It's me. Still trying to figure out how to fix that. I didn't have a huge surge of productivity, either. I did spend more time reading my Bible, and Lucy and I did some pretty stellar M crafts , but I didn't even crack open a single book or do any more cleaning than usual. Part of that was because of number 2 . . . ...

1. We went all out for Justin on Father's Day this year. Lucy is finally old enough to understand a little bit, so we had fun getting everything ready for him. I got this idea from Pinterest, and put it together for Justin: Photo Credit Photo Credit We filled it with a bunch of his favorite snacks, and a gift card to a local fishing store. Then Lucy filled out this questionnaire: It was kind of ironic that her favorite number is 28, so she actually got his age right. She said he was 28 inches tall and weighed 38 pounds. One of my favorite parts was when she said, "I know my Daddy is mad when he pouts ." Lol. Justin is not a big pouter. I don't know where she got that from. And she said "My Daddy is really good at exercising ." Haha. It was so cute. [She also made one for my dad. The best part was that she said he weighs 530 pounds. Lol.] Then we made breakfast in bed. And by we, I mean I . Lucy helped him eat it. :-) 2. I made these...

The Best of Pinterest [Recipe Edition]

My sister is in search of a way to make cake pops royal blue. We've ruled out food coloring (it makes the frosting gloppy and gross), and it's surprisingly difficult to find royal blue sprinkles or sugar. So when I came across this pin on Pinterest, I got all excited and sent it to her: The caption on the pin, says to combine 1/4 c. sugar with 1/2 tsp. food coloring, and bake it at 350*. However, when you click on the pic to go to the site, it says "This page has been removed." Niki did a little searching and found this: Apparently, it's not real. Or if it is, it's pretty difficult to accomplish. I also saw an article floating around facebook recently about how Pinterest is creating anxiety in mothers and causing them to feel so much pressure to be the "Pinterest mom." I honestly do feel that way sometimes, but I also think Pinterest has been an amazing tool. I have found so many amazing recipes, tips, and craft projects that I decided to doc...
