The Saturday 7

1. I officially finished my first year as a school librarian/paraprofessional. Because I only work Mondays, and next Monday is Memorial Day, I finished this week. Of course, it was not without difficulty, since I came down with another  cough that ravaged my voice. The kids are already squirrely during the last few weeks of school. It was rough keeping their attention. At one point, I literally stood on a chair and waved my arms in the air because I couldn't shout loud enough to get them to quiet down. Haha. Despite that, I truly enjoyed this year. The library stuff was a delight. My classroom management skills could use improvement (as the standing on a chair technique reveals). I'm hoping to do some research to that end this summer.  2. The good news is that I've been asked to return again next year! I signed my contract this week and am excited about potentially adding another day to my schedule. Look at me, working two days a week like a professional. 😂 However, next y

1. This week was birthday week for Lucy. She turned 12 on Wednesday and had many days worth of celebration. First, we celebrated with my family on Sunday. She had asked for Sadie Robertson books and my family delivered. She got a bunch on Sunday, plus a few other things she asked for.  I'm a bad mom and couldn't scrounge up 12 candles. Lol. She didn't care. On Wednesday, she got her traditional breakfast in bed (cinnamon roll) and one present before school. She opened the rest of her presents when Justin got home from work. She didn't get very many this year, because she really wanted a huge, expensive Lego set, so that took up most of the birthday budget.  She chose Culver's for her birthday dinner that night, which was a nice break from the usual McDonald's or pizza. On Thursday night, sweet Aunt Esther took her out for dinner at Red Robin, then let her do some shopping at the mall. Lucy was so excited to buy new clothes off the rack at a store in the mall. Sh

Another crazy week - that's May for you. My calendar's bursting with school events, birthdays, and soccer. I'm so thankful I only have one kid playing sports. My hat's off to all of you juggling multiple schedules!  1. We started the week off with sickness. I wrote last week that Levi wasn't feeling well. I thought he was on the upswing by Sunday, but Monday morning, he was wailing about his belly and had a slight fever so I knew I shouldn't send him to school. My hat's also off to working moms everywhere who have to handle last minute illnesses like this. I wanted to say, "C'mon, kid. I work one day a week. You couldn't have been sick on a Tuesday or Wednesday?" I knew my sisters wouldn't want their kids exposed, so I called my mom. Both her and my dad's phones weren't working though. So I dropped the girls off at school, then zoomed to my parents' house and literally stood on their doorstep holding Levi's backpack in o

Let's Talk About Roe V. Wade

Look at me getting political and potentially stirring up conflict. I know. It's making me sweat, but it's gotten me fired up this week and I process by writing, so bear with me. In case you live under a rock, this is the gist from  Politico's website .  The Supreme Court has voted to strike down the landmark  Roe v. Wade  decision, according to an  initial draft majority opinion  written by Justice Samuel Alito circulated inside the court and obtained by POLITICO.  As the article goes on to explain, The immediate impact of the ruling as drafted in February would be to end a half-century guarantee of federal constitutional protection of abortion rights and allow each state to decide whether to restrict or ban abortion. The underhanded reason it was leaked, though, is this: Deliberations on controversial cases have in the past been fluid. Justices can and sometimes do change their votes as draft opinions circulate and major decisions can be subject to multiple drafts and vote
