The Saturday 7

Were you guys worried I'd neglect the Saturday 7 two weeks in a row?! Never fear! I am here in all my witty and wonderful glory. (My humility went the way of last week's Saturday 7 . . .) Actually, prepare yourself that this isn't going to be a particularly witty entry. I'm off my game lately. 1. Backtracking a little . . . we survived our week of Justin working on the other side of the state. The kids were really good and I didn't cook all week. Win! The first night Justin was gone I told the kids we were having cereal for dinner. They were so shocked. Haha. They're not usually big cereal eaters, but I bought sugary cereals specifically for the occasion and we all binged on Cinnamon Life and Peanut Butter Captain Crunch. Once the girls heard I wasn't cooking, though, they took it upon themselves to prepare "fancy dinner" twice during the week. Lena made salami and cheese sandwiches and fruit salad. And Lucy made macaroni with hot dogs and frui...

The Saturday 7

1. Justin and I had a glorious weekend away. I drank so much Dr Pepper I'm pretty sure I gained my 5 pounds back. (I didn't weigh myself because I don't really want to know . . .) I watched a lot of HGTV, he did a lot of shopping at Bass Pro, we wandered the mall together, ate good food, and saw The Greatest Showman  (loved it!). It was a much needed break from the sickness dominating this house. 2. Unfortunately, while we were gone, Levi got sicker and sicker. He and I both had a cold, but he spiked a fever Saturday night and was miserable all day on Sunday. My mom could tell his ears were bothering him, so I figured his cold had just made its way to his ears and he needed some antibiotics. (He always gets a fever with his ear infections.) We came home earlier than planned on Sunday night so I could run him to Urgent Care before it closed, but he was sound asleep on my mom when we got home, so I decided to risk it and hope he'd sleep. He actually slept pretty well an...

1. The girls' progress reports came home this week. They're both excelling and learning everything they need to. Lucy's teacher didn't write a little blurb, but Lena's did. She said that Lena is helpful, kind, respectful, obedient, eager to learn, knows all the rules and follows them. Pretty much everything a parent wants to hear about their kid. I patted myself on the back a little bit, but then started to question how much of that has to do with my parenting prowess (especially considering the whiny wreck she is at home). I decided that I can attribute maybe 10% of her obedience to parenting, 50% to her personality, and 40% to her anxiety of doing something wrong/getting in trouble. So basically she got Justin's personality mixed with my anxiety. Lucky girl. Haha. 2. The girls also had dentist appointments this week. Lucy's only been once and Lena's never been because we don't have dental insurance. But a new place opened this summer that takes M...

The "Saturday" 7

I was busy all day yesterday, didn't get home 'til midnight, and never had a chance to pen the Saturday 7. Better late than never, right? 1. Lena had her first field trip this week. She's actually been on this field trip before, because she tagged along when Lucy did the same thing a few years ago, but Lena didn't remember much about it. For their fall field trip, her class got to go to the apple orchard. We got to pick apples and pumpkins, eat donuts, sip cider, and enjoy the crisp, cool, fall weather . . . . actually, that last part was a lie. It was 90 degrees! When we went with Lucy, I wore a cute sweater, scarf, knee-high boots, and mittens. This year, we wore tank tops, shorts, and sunscreen. It was so hot. But the kids had a blast and we all survived. That cow licked Levi seconds after I snapped the pic. Haha. 2. I fell off the wagon a little bit with my diet this week. I had Dr Pepper on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. And I haven't been e...
