Adventures in La La Land

Bad news: I have very little to write about this week. That seems to be the growing trend. I don't know why. Am I getting less interesting? Haha. I think I'm struggling a little bit with depression, which just makes me listless and lazy. So we honestly don't do much these days. Anyway, here's what I've got: 1. I bought some delicious snap pea crisps on a whim at Meijer in an effort to consume more vegetables. I actually really like them and have been inhaling them with gusto! They taste just like chips, so I tried to talk my girls into eating them too. Lucy absolutely refused, but Lena liked them. She ate 4 with dinner one night. But by the following morning, she had a terrible diaper rash - we're talking blisters . Neither of my girls has ever had a diaper rash like that before! I forgot that she's reacted to peas in the past. #badmom #veggiefail She's solid on the fruit consumption, though. My dad has a flourishing vineyard in the backyard, and Le...

1. The Saturday 7 is going to be mostly about my weekend. Because all I did all week was clean up messes and wish I was sleeping.  2. I have really been struggling with exhaustion lately . I don't know what my problem is, but all I ever want to do is sleep. I think about it every waking moment. I plot when I'll be able to sleep ne xt. Justin had Wednesday off and I ended up sleeping on the couch from 8am-noon. I'm sleeping my life away. :-( 3. Justin left Thursday afternoon for the Bassmaster All-Star Classic in Escanaba (6 hours north of here), and won't be home 'til tomorrow evening. We did well until this afternoon when I started to melt down a little bit. Haha. It doesn't help that my vehicle is so unreliable that I don't dare drive too far. We were all having a bit of cabin fever. It's times like these that I'm grateful to live with my parents and have other people around to entertain my girls occasionally. My hat's off to single ...

1. We hosted small group with our friends last Saturday. Everyone brought their kids (and I got to hold the new baby!). It's so crazy to see how we've grown over the past 7 years. Most of the kids were off playing in the above picture. I love how they're all so close in age and hope they'll always be friends. Although we adults have already vowed not to let any of our kids' relationships ruin our friendships. Haha. The crazy thing about small group now that we all have kids is that everyone was gone by 8:40. We used to stay out til one or two in the morning! 2. We had such weird weather this week. At the beginning of the week, we were outside in shorts and t-shirts checking out the apples and making mud pies. Mud pie aftermath Lucy's fashion statement of the day. By today, we were bundled up in sweatshirts and jeans and had our first fire in the fireplace. I pulled out the 18 month bin for Lena. Most of the jeans/skirts are too big for Lena...

1. The camping recap: I wouldn't say that I totally enjoyed it, but there were pleasant times, and I didn't totally hate it. Haha. I'm very grateful that we got to stay in the cabin instead of a tent, but I decided that my girls are still a little young for camping. The worst part was trying to entertain them with the limited supply of toys that I brought. When it wasn't sunny/warm enough to be at the beach or on the playground they were bored. But we did have some good times and make some good memories. It wouldn't be my first choice for vacation, but I'm glad we did it. I saw this on Pinterest this week and it pretty much sums it up: 2. My girls both got some weird 24 hour bug while we were camping. Thursday night before we left, Lena was up all night crying, then woke up Friday morning with a fever and nasty snot nose. By Saturday, though, she was fever-free and acting fine. (She still has a disgusting nose, though.) Sunday afternoon, Lucy had a meltdown ...

Advance edition because we're leaving to go camping for the weekend in an hour. (More on that in my final point!) 1. Last Saturday we went to a surprise 30th birthday party for one of our friends. I can't believe we're moving into our 30s. Oy. Anyway, it was a family affair at a lake, and the girls had a blast. Lucy loves  lakes and makes me so nervous. Haha. For being my nervous child, she seems to have no fear in lakes. Lena freaked out about the sand at first, but was actually walking and playing in it by the end of the day. Progress. 2. On Tuesday, we went to the zoo with my sister and her boys. She had free passes, so we didn't even pay a cent! Lena loved all the animals and people and being outside. Lucy, on the other hand, was a total grump. She just does not do well with being hot, tired, or bored. Haha. I know. Does any kid? But she seems to get hot, tired, and bored faster than most kids her age. Drama. You'll notice the 4 year old is in the stro...

1. We added another activity to our Summer Bucket List in Reverse: a Whitecaps game. Lucy got a free ticket for completing the summer reading program at the library, but there were only 3 dates to choose from. Justin drove by the ballpark Tuesday night and saw that Wednesday was "Princess Night" and it happened to be one of the dates available for Lucy's free ticket. We knew we couldn't pass that up! So Lucy dressed up in her princess garb, we left Lena with my parents, and we headed off to the game. Lucy was quite bored by the game, but she loved spotting all the princesses in the park. And I actually anticipated her boredom and brought a Junie B. Jones book, so we read in the grass while Justin watched the game. :-) Her favorite part was the 10 minute fireworks show at the end. Haha. 2. Thursday was my mom's birthday, and it worked out that all my siblings were available (unheard of!) so we all went out for dinner at Rio Grande. I ordered the Mac n' Cheese...

1. Lucy got her first hair cut last Saturday. She loves  her long hair, but it's getting so scraggly that I've been working on getting her to cut it for a while. Saturday night I gave her a bath and she finally said, "I think I'm ready to get my hair cut." I enlisted my mom and we did it then and there before she could change her mind. In the end, we hardly took anything off. Like seriously an inch. But we didn't want to cut off all the curl and were really just looking to cut off the dead stuff. It definitely looks better and still has the curl! 2. This week has been consumed with homeschool planning and prep. I'm probably making it more involved than I need to, but that's just how I roll. On Wednesday, we spent the day at Kelly's house to share plans/bounce ideas off each other. That night, we left the kids with our husbands and went shopping at 6:30 pm. I didn't get home 'til 11:30 pm! Woohoo! Crazy childless moms out shopping 't...
