Bridal Shower Meme Game

I'm always on the hunt for original bridal shower games. Everyone's played "Who Knows the Bride Best" or "What's In Your Purse?" or "Toilet Paper Wedding Dress." My goal in finding games is something different, something that doesn't put a huge amount of pressure/attention on the bride, does not involve doing anything embarrassing, and can be done sitting in a chair (no relays or charades). And when I inevitably can't find anything that fits those parameters, I make something up! This year's game was inspired by another game I bought on clearance at Meijer called "What Do You Meme?" It's essentially Apples to Apples, but with memes.

I looked up a meme generator  and chose a few basic memes I thought would work. I created each meme to say "That Moment When . . ." and then I spent hours coming up with phrases to complete the meme. The hardest part was coming up with enough that each guest would have options. Let me give you some examples . . .

- everyone actually turns in their RSVP cards for the wedding

- the wedding dress still fits after 6 months of a pandemic

- you change your relationship status to “married” on facebook

- you’re upgraded to first class when the flight attendant hears you’re on your honeymoon

- your sister catches the bouquet

- you realize your wedding dress has pockets

- you open one of your wedding cards and $500 falls out

 - Donald Trump crashes your wedding

 - your maid of honor tells embarrassing stories in her speech

- the whole audience whistles and claps during the first kiss

- you have to play a game at your bridal shower where all the attention is on you

 - the ring won’t fit on your groom’s finger

- your mom gives you “the talk” the night before the wedding

 - you pick Song of Solomon 3:4 for the scripture reading (“I have found the one who my soul loves”), but your brother accidentally reads Song of Solomon 7:4 instead. (“Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon looking toward Damascus.”)

 - your grandma shows up at your bachelorette party . . . and brings a gift

 - your dad refuses to let you go when you get to the end of the aisle

 - your cousins perform a flash mob at the reception

 - the Baptists start dancing

 - you burn the first meal you ever make your husband

 - your mom starts dropping hints about grandbabies

- the groom smashes cake in your face

- your cousin brings her new boyfriend who she didn't RSVP for

- the ring bearer makes dinosaur noises all the way down the aisle

 - someone calls you “bridezilla”

 - there’s a snowstorm on your wedding day

 - the governor busts your wedding for lack of proper social distancing

 - you get three toasters as wedding gifts

- the pastor wears a mask during the ceremony

 - your husband buys you a dog as a wedding present

 - you realize your husband snores

- you come home from your honeymoon pregnant

 - you smash cake in your groom’s face

 - you’re upgraded to first class when the flight attendant hears you’re on your honeymoon

 - the groom cries when he sees you walking down the aisle

 - you live happily ever after with the love of your life

How to Play

1. Give each guest 5-7 cards with pre-made phrases. (If you have too many guests/not enough phrases, have people pair up.)

2. Show guests the first meme and have them choose which phrase they think fits best.

3. Collect the phrase cards from guests. Read them aloud.

4. The bride-to-be picks her favorite.

5. The guest/pair of guests whose card was chosen gets a point.

6. The game ends when you're out of memes and/or phrases. Whichever guest has the most points wins! (In the case of a tie, have one more meme ready. Only the winners play. If they don't have any phrase cards left, they can make up their own!)

It's also fun to include phrases that are specific to the bride and groom. The couple I threw this shower for have been fixing up a house to move into after the wedding. But the wedding is coming up quickly and the house is progressing slowly, so one of the phrases I created was "You come home from your honeymoon and your new house is move-in ready!" I found out they're going up north for their honeymoon in mid October, so I made up this one: "You get snowed in on your honeymoon and have to stay an extra three days." The possibilities are endless!
